Lime Crime Velvetines Review

I have been excited about this product ever since it was first announced. I missed out on getting it the first time it was released. When the second wave of Velvetines was released I jumped at the chance and bought them. I have had these since April, but I really wanted to test these out well before I reviewed them.

Velvetines are liquid matte lipsticks. They come in three; Suedeberry (a retro red, kind of strawberry coral red.), Pink velvet (a bright pink) and Red Velvet (a beautiful rich red color). Featured in this review are Suedeberry and Red Velvet.

The box that Suedeberry and Red Velvet come in looks like this:

If you open the box all the way, it folds out to reveal instructions and tips on applying. I'm not sure if Pink Velvet will have this, from what I've seen the look of it is pretty different.

I love the packaging, although I expected these to be bigger than they are. It comes in a tube like a lip gloss and has a doe foot applicator. I really like the applicator, it makes it easy to apply.

The formula and thin consistency reminds me of OCC lip tars. These dry completely matte. They can feel a little drying, so put a little bit of lip balm on before applying. The colors are very pigmented, one swipe and you have full opacity. They smell wonderful, like vanilla cupcakes.

The lasting power is amazing as long as you don't eat anything greasy. If you eat anything with oils or greasiness then it will come off. But whenever I just drank or ate non-greasy foods the Velvetines stayed wonderfully! Sometimes I feel like they have even better staying power than OCC lip tars (and those have some great staying power).

I did a few things to test out lasting power and I have a timeline as well. One day I went on a trip with a friend to a large mall that was about an hour away. I applied some Too Faced lip Insurance primer with a velvetine on top around 8:30 am. About 9:30-10:00 I had a muffin, even wiped my mouth with a napkin a few times and it did not budge. I drank water throughout the day and it still didn't budge. Around 12:30 we stopped for lunch. I had something greasy, which wiped off most of the Velvetine. From there I just completely cleaned off the primer and Velvetine.

After lunch (about 1:30ish) I reapplied the Velvetine WITHOUT primer. I drank water throughout the day and it did not budge. I didn't do any touch ups. By the time I got home around 7:30 pm it still looked perfect! It even lasted through my dinner and did not budge until I washed it off myself with a makeup remover wipe (probably around 8:30 or 9:00 pm). I really hope that this shows just how well these last! I should also add that I at points had forgotten that I was even wearing anything on my lips. It is very light weight. It wasn't overly drying to me at all.

I absolutely love Lime Crime's velvetines. They're worthy of the hype for sure! I can't wait to get Pink Velvet!

Review: Lime Crime Palette D' Antoinette

As you might be able to tell, I love Lime Crime. I am a huge fan of their lipsticks and nail polishes. I spent months gazing upon their palettes until I finally decided to get one.

Palette D' Antoinette although the only Lime Crime palette I've tried has my favorite colors out of any of their palettes . I have never seen colors exactly like these anywhere else.

Just like the rest of their palettes, this one comes in a beautiful purple tin with a gold lime crime logo on the top. The tin came in a really cute box made to look like an envelope (I don't have that any more so I can't post a picture). On the bottom there is a sticker with the colors and their names. Inside of the tin the eyeshadow pans are imbedded in plastic. The tin is sturdy, but I wish this plastic were sturdier. The pans seem to be a good size. I should also mention the tin isn't bulky at all.

The shades (I absolutely love the names):

Royal Flush: A bold matte pastel pink

Absintheminded: A bold matte pastel green

Macarooned: A bold matte pastel orange

Ribbonesque: A bold matte pastel purple

Mercurious: A shimmery, metallic silver

 There's a pretty design printed across the eyeshadows. All of the colors with the exception of Mercurious are matte. Although I do like Mercurious, I wish they had kept with the mattes and added a matte yellow or blue. The silver (although beautiful) looks random in this palette.

These are very pigmented eyeshadows, although Mercurious is a little less opaque. They feel very nice, not chalky at all. They glide on very smoothly. They blend really well too, I love blending Royal Flush and Macarooned.

I'm so happy that I bought this palette. Although I have many eyeshadows and try not to buy them, I am tempted to purchase the Aquataenia palette. I should point out that the matte shades match their corresponding colors of the Lime Crime nail polishes.

Review: Lime Crime Nail Polish

This is a review I've been meaning to do for a while, but as I try to do with every review I waited until I had tested out these nail polishes enough to give a good, honest and detailed review.

I am pretty obsessed with Lime Crime. When I saw that they had nail polish and even more when I saw the colors I absolutely had to have them. There are 7 colors in the collection and I have all of them but Milky Ways (An off white sort of color) and Peaches <3 Cream (a pastel orange).

The colors I do have are Parfait Day (pastel pink), Crema De Limon (pastel yellow), Once In A Blue Mousse (pastel blue), Pastelchio (pastel green) and Lavendairy (pastel purple).
The colors are absolutely beautiful and very vibrant. They are perfect for spring. Lime Crime even has lipsticks that correspond with some of the nail polish colors.

The packaging is cute, which I have come to expect from Lime Crime. Each bottle features a purple logo containing the words Lime Crime and a unicorn. The bottom of each bottle has the name of the shade. Lookwise these are my favorite nail polishes to display.

Now onto the product itself. Each color is very opaque. Application can be streaky but that is very common with light/pastel colors. The lasting power is great, but not perfect. I did have some minor chips within a few days, but at the one week point most of the nail polish is still in tact.  
 
                                               
 Here are the nail polishes on my nails. Please keep in mind that I am a professional at applying makeup, not nail polish. I am not the best at painting my nails.


There are two problems I have with these nail polishes. First off (although very minor) is the way some of the pigmentation will settle at the top after a while. This is easily fixed with a good shake of the bottle though. My next complaint is the size of the bottles. They are very small! I wish they were at least a little bigger. For the price, the size isn't too bad. I bought all of mine through Ebay which in the end was a little more expensive, but at the time it was the easiest way for me to buy them.





I love these nail polishes so much, I wish the lasting power was a tad bit better though. They can be difficult (and expensive) to get but it is so worth it, especially for the spring. The colors are pretty unique, the only identical dupe that I know of is for Crema De Limon ( China Glaze's Lemon Fizz).

Review: Lime Crime lipsticks

Finally, here it is! My review of Lime Crime's lipsticks! This will be a review of the product only and not about any of the controversy with this company. I don't care about any of the controversy, I only care how the product preforms, which is the most important thing.

I should have said this in previous posts, I am still learning how to take good pictures of swatches, products and packaging. I am also not able to use my really good camera at this time so my pictures aren't the best. Please be forgiving, I haven't been doing reviews with swatches and such for all that long.

I love these boxes, they are so girly and cute. I also love how you can put 2 of the boxes together and get this:

The lipsticks themselves of course match the boxes.

I love, love, love the packaging of these. The lipsticks come in a purple tube with Lime Crime and a holographic unicorn. Some people would probably be embarrassed to be seen with makeup packaging that looks like this, but this just screams me.

For a size comparison, here is a Lime Crime lipstick tube next to a MAC lipstick tube.

Here is Retrofuturist. My camera gave this color an orange undertone, but this is a bright and true red.

This is my favorite lipstick ever.

Here is Poisonberry. Don't let the color in the tube deceive you. When applied, Poisonberry is a beautiful and flattering berry color. It is very buildable so you could probably build up the color to get a deep purple.

Here is Centrifuchsia, a deep pink/fuchsia color.

I don't have lip swatches for these today, I will probably post some lip swatches of these as I wear them more. For now here are some hand swatches.

Top to bottom: Retrofuturist, Poisonberry and Centrifuchsia. Retrofuturist is a bright true red, not orangy. The Poisonberry swatch is pretty spot on and the Centrifuchsia looks a tad bit different.

I love these lipsticks. They are very creamy and pigmented. I am very impressed with the staying power, they last most of the day if not all day without reapplying. They also leave a stain behind which I love.

They smell like vanilla, but the smell isn't overpowering. As I mentioned with Poisonberry they are very buildable, which is nice when you want a subtle color. 

Lime Crime has so many different lipstick colors, many in colors that you won't normally find such as yellow and green. I do plan on getting another one of these as well as some other Lime Crime products. Lime Crime has a very good range of products which you can find at http://www.limecrimemakeup.com/ .

I own almost all of the Lime Crime nail polishes (I need 2 more!) I have not tried them yet, but once I try one there will be a review. I am dying to try the new Velvetines in Red Velvet as well. Hopefully soon or after the holidays I will be able to get one and have a review of it.
