Geek Chic Cosmetics Eyeshadow Review

I love Indie makeup brands. In my experience they always have the coolest products. I am always searching for new ones, which brought me to Geek Chic Cosmetics. The name itself caught my eye. I admit proudly that I'm a nerd. So when I found this brand, I was super excited to check it out. When I started looking around their website (Geekchiccosmetics.com) I instantly fell in love.

Geek Chic Cosmetics specializes in handmade cruelty free, gluten free and filler free makeup with a geeky twist. All products are free of parabens, talc, non-organic preservatives and bismuth oxychloride. They have many different products including foundation, blush, lipsticks (dubbed Joysticks) and eye shadows. Most products are vegan. Each product is made to order, although it takes longer to get I think that is very cool.

Their eye shadow collections are what drew me in the most. They have many different collections based on different geeky pop culture things. When I saw that they have a line based on my favorite movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Science Fiction Double Feature) I absolutely needed to try Geek Chic Cosmetics.

I ordered four eye shadow samples and one full sized eyeshadow. They include a free sample with every order as well. I love that samples are offered (at only $1.25). I would recommend ordering some samples, some of the colors look a bit different than in the swatches on their website.
                                      In different lighting:

I love the little business card that was included.

Today I will be reviewing and swatching all of the eye shadows that I got from Geek Chic. The lighting in my house is horrible, which is why I don't do many posts with swatches. My swatches don't completely do the eye shadows justice, they are so much more beautiful in person.

The full sized eye shadow I bought is As You Wish... From the Story Book Love collection. Each eye shadow comes in a clear plastic jar with labels at the top indicating the collection name and labels on the bottom indicating the color name and ingredients. There is a sifter in each jar, which makes the product easier to work with. Overall, great packaging.

Now the samples. Each sample comes in a plastic clam shell. I really do like how they are packaged, it is so much better than just coming in plastic bags.  Each sample has a label like the ones at the bottom of the full sized jars. I did end up transferring my samples to different containers though, to make them easier to use.

I bought We Are Coming, Rose Tint My World, The Spider, Viking King and The Trickster was given to me as a free sample. With each swatch below, the product over primer is on the right, the product without primer is on the left.

Rose Tint My World from the Science Fiction Double Feature (Rocky Horror Picture Show based) line. The name certainly influenced my decision to sample this particular eyeshadow,  Rose Tint My World is probably my favorite song from Rocky Horror.  Such a beautiful and unique color. I  definitely want the full sized.

We Are Coming from the Timey Wimey collection (based on Doctor Who). I absolutely love Doctor Who and this eye shadow definitely fits with the different colored glitter. I can see myself using this color a lot.

The Spider from the Win or Die  collection (based on Game of Thrones). This is another collection, being a Game of Thrones fan that I needed to check out. It is a very lovely color.

Viking King from the Fangbangers Quartet collection (based on True Blood). True Blood is my favorite show, this was the second collection that I saw that I absolutely needed to try. Not only is Viking King named after one of my favorite characters (Erik Northman), but it is such a beautiful gold color.

The Trickster from the Superneutrals (Supernatural based) collection. I was so happy when I found out that this was my free sample. I have started watching  Supernatural and I wear neutral eye shadow colors a lot.

I waited a few weeks to write this review. I like with any review to give myself time to test the product so I can give a  thorough and honest review. After a few weeks of use  I have come to these conclusions. Every single eye shadow is very pigmented and buildable. They blend  and glide on so well. The formula feels great. They didn't wear off of crease whenever I wore them.

I love these eye shadows so much and they definitely exceeded my expectations. Every color turned out to be beautiful and well worth the money. Someday I will for sure purchase full sizes of some of these. There are other products I want to try as well.

I love Geek Chic Cosmetics, they are one of the coolest and most fun brands I have ever used. It makes me so happy that I found a brand that combines my love of makeup with the love of some of the many fandoms I'm a part of.  They make me even more proud to be geeky and chic. If you are a part of the fandoms mentioned in this post or any other that Geek Chic has a product based on, you need to try it.

ELF Haul

Hello lovelies! Today I thought I would finally post my Elf haul. I've said it before, I love Elf so much and I'm always so excited when one of their packages shows up at my door. I'm not just posting this to be like "Oh look at all of the cool stuff I bought that I will eventually review". I would actually really like some feedback from some of you. I would like to know what out of this post would anyone like to see reviewed. Or any Elf products in general you would like to see reviewed. I own so many of their products, if there is one you would like me to review and I have it, I will gladly do a review.

Anyway, onto the haul.

First up, the Wet Gloss Lash & Brow Clear Mascara. I always have a few of these kicking around, I use it to keep my eyebrows in place and it really does its job well. Both ends of the product are the same thing. One of the best things about this product: it's only $1.

The new HD blush in Headliner. I have been wanting to try one of these out so badly. Once I have had the chance to properly test this out, there will definitely be a review on it.

Studio small stipple brush. I bought this just for use with the HD blush.

Mineral blush in Joy. I had been wanting to try out one of the mineral blushes for a while. I had also heard this was a dupe for Benefit's Dandelion blush.

Lip Lock Pencil. This is one of my favorite Elf products. I might do a review of this eventually. Would anyone like a review of this in particular?

                                                               Mineral Eye Brightener.

Eyebrow Treat and Tame. I really wanted to try a liquid brow filler. I haven't tried the treat side yet, but I'm hoping it'll work if I ever over wax my eyebrows.

                                                            Baked Blush in Passion Pink.

Maximum Coverage Concealer. I really wanted another concealer for under the eyes and for when I don't feel like wearing my beloved Hard Candy Glamoflauge.

Essential Brightening Eye Color in Nouveau Neutrals. This was a free gift that Elf sent me for filling out the email referral after placing my order.

So that's everything! Please let me know if there is anything from this post or any Elf product at all that you would want to see a review of.

Review: Lime Crime Nail Polish

This is a review I've been meaning to do for a while, but as I try to do with every review I waited until I had tested out these nail polishes enough to give a good, honest and detailed review.

I am pretty obsessed with Lime Crime. When I saw that they had nail polish and even more when I saw the colors I absolutely had to have them. There are 7 colors in the collection and I have all of them but Milky Ways (An off white sort of color) and Peaches <3 Cream (a pastel orange).

The colors I do have are Parfait Day (pastel pink), Crema De Limon (pastel yellow), Once In A Blue Mousse (pastel blue), Pastelchio (pastel green) and Lavendairy (pastel purple).
The colors are absolutely beautiful and very vibrant. They are perfect for spring. Lime Crime even has lipsticks that correspond with some of the nail polish colors.

The packaging is cute, which I have come to expect from Lime Crime. Each bottle features a purple logo containing the words Lime Crime and a unicorn. The bottom of each bottle has the name of the shade. Lookwise these are my favorite nail polishes to display.

Now onto the product itself. Each color is very opaque. Application can be streaky but that is very common with light/pastel colors. The lasting power is great, but not perfect. I did have some minor chips within a few days, but at the one week point most of the nail polish is still in tact.

Here are the nail polishes on my nails. Please keep in mind that I am a professional at applying makeup, not nail polish. I am not the best at painting my nails.

There are two problems I have with these nail polishes. First off (although very minor) is the way some of the pigmentation will settle at the top after a while. This is easily fixed with a good shake of the bottle though. My next complaint is the size of the bottles. They are very small! I wish they were at least a little bigger. For the price, the size isn't too bad. I bought all of mine through Ebay which in the end was a little more expensive, but at the time it was the easiest way for me to buy them.

I love these nail polishes so much, I wish the lasting power was a tad bit better though. They can be difficult (and expensive) to get but it is so worth it, especially for the spring. The colors are pretty unique, the only identical dupe that I know of is for Crema De Limon ( China Glaze's Lemon Fizz).

In all these are beautiful polishes, they are good quality and they are perfect for spring. If you want to buy Lime Crime's nail polish, you can buy it directly from Lime Crime (http://www.limecrimemakeup.com/), from ebay (ebay.com) or amazon (amazon.com).

Weekly Beauty Tip #38: Bolder and longer lasting pigment eyeshadow

When wearing pigment eyeshadow, try mixing it with a cosmetic mixing medium or water to make it bolder and longer lasting.

Nails By Vicky: Easter Nails

I am sorry for this late Easter nail post but things got very hectic here at school so I was not able to write up a post until this weekend. This will not be a normal tutorial however I will show you what I used and how I did the nail art for my statement nail.

This time for my nails I wanted to do a Easter design, so I decided to do Robin's egg nails with my statement nail being a bunny.

(I took this picture right after finishing up so I had not yet had the chance to clean up the edges. Also when I applied the top coat part of the bunnies mouth came off even though I had waited for it to dry. Just be very careful with your nail art and make sure that it is completely dry before applying any kind of top coat.)

For this design I used:

  • My normal top coat and base coat
  • Illamasqua Speckled Blue (Sephora $16) for the Robin's Egg look

  • For the bunny design: I used Blackheart white nail polish (Hot Topic $5)

  • To make the nose I used a pink. Specifically ELF Fab Fuchsia (ELF $2) (I believe that this color was discontinued but they have a new color called Flirty Fuchsia which is very similar.)

This was a somewhat more difficult design for me because I had never made a bunny before. However they are very easy to do once you know how.
To create the bunny:
  • Paint a couple of coats of white nail polish.
  • Then to make it easier to center everything, using a dotting tool or a thin brush draw a small rectangular nose using the pink.
  • Next, using a nail art pen or nail art polish in black make two dots for the eyes above the nose, two lines on either side of the nose to make the whiskers and make a kind of wave design for the mouth.
If you have trouble following my directions please look at the picture below (the only difference is that I am making the whole nail white instead of making ears.)

(This picture is from http://www.nailpro.com/category/user-galleries-tag-list/bunny-nail-art)

Again I am so sorry that it took me so long to create this post, but college life has been driving me a little crazy. I will try to create another post about a Relay for Life design for next week if I can.
